Fall / Winter Lecture Series ~ Franklin County Historical Society

The Franklin County Historical Society – Kittochtinny invites the community to its 2010 Winter Meeting and Lecture Series held at the Grove Library Center, 101 Ragged Edge Road, Chambersburg, PA.

The first lecture in the series will feature the Society’s former Vice President, Bob Windemuth, who will speak on Pennsylvania Indians at 1:00 pm, January 28. The February 25, 1:00 pm lecture, focusing on Civil War fashions, will be presented by Dr. Karin Bohleke, Director of Fashion Archives at Shippensburg University. Dr. Susan Rimby will speak, March 25 at 3:00 pm. Dr. Rimby is History Department Chair at Shippensburg University with a specialty in Women’s History. She will present on the Women’s Suffrage Movement and its connection to Franklin County which coincides with the society’s winter / spring exhibit.

Lunch meetings are no longer held, however a $2 contribution is requested to defray speaker and refreshment costs. Contact the society at 717-264-1667 or history@pa.net for reservations at least 24 hours prior to the lecture.

The lectures are hosted by The Franklin County Historical Society – Kittochtinny located at 175 E. King Street, Chambersburg, PA. The Society preserves five historic sites on the National Register: Old Franklin County Jail, Old Brown’s Mill School, John Brown House, Carrick Iron Furnace and the Chambersburg – Bedford Turnpike Toll House. A genealogical archives, library and museum are open to the public at the Old Jail Thursday, Friday and Saturday, except holidays, 10 AM to 4 PM (winter hours).
